You may have a pretty good idea of what you need to pack, but how do you know if you are actually going to need every single item on your list?
If you want to get the most out of your wardrobe in a small room, then read on…
Make some hooks inside your wardrobe
To get the most out of your accessories, you should consider storing them somewhere that will give you easy access to them. The inside of cupboard doors are a great space to store all your accessories. You can also pick up small metal rods which you can attach to the inside of the door and hang your accessories from there. In my new walk-in-wardrobe design I’ve done just that. Or else, you can buy small hooks and hang them in the back of your wardrobe. This way you have easy access to your clothes without getting them out of the small walk in closet.
Categorized your drawers
I used to store all my stuff in one drawer. Now, I have divided it by season. I have a drawer for the fall/winter time and a separate one for spring/summer time. This makes me feel organized because I know exactly where to find my stockings, socks, ties etc.
Moreover, if I want to change seasonally, I know where to look to get that item. Use clear storage boxes If you are going to be storing large quantities of items in your wardrobe, then it is important that you make sure that they are stored in an organized fashion. This means that you should either buy boxes or you should start storing things in paper bags and then store them in boxes later. This way you will be able to see what you have without having to dig through piles of stuff.
Maximize your blank wall
If you have extra space on your wall, it’s a nice way to store all your accessories. It’s a little bit of an investment, but a very good one. There’s no need to buy too many and end up with too much space, which will lead to clutter and disorganization.
If you are using a blank wall, you can use some of the empty space to store your winter and summer coats, your raincoats etc. This way, you won’t have to worry about the closet door closing on your coat or you will have to take it off to get at your coat. You can use your drawers, I have a drawer for my work clothes. I hang a few pieces of clothing from there so I can see them easily without having to open the wardrobe. Plus, don’t use the floor. If you don’t have enough space on the floor, you can put all your shoes in the HDB built-in wardrobe design itself.
Consider movable hanging spaces
This tip is similar to adjustable shelving. If you have a cupboard with high walls but limited space, these adjustable rods are a great idea. Simply move and slot in depending on what you’re hanging (and its height). This ensures you are using the entire space of the wall/cupboard. If you are looking for a more permanent solution to your problem, you could also consider adjustable shelves, as shown here. This is probably not an option for you if you are not handy and don’t want to go through the effort of cutting holes in the wall.
